Onewheel tire sizing is displayed with three values. ‘Overall height (inches) x Overall width (inches) – Hub diameter (inches). When considering an aftermarket tire, its important to understand each tire measurement and how they impact your riding experience.
The Onewheel GT tire dimensions are 11.5″ x 6.5″ – 6.5″ meaning the overall tire height is 11.5 inches tall. The overall width of the tire is 6.5″ wide and the hub size is 6.5″ in diameter. In comparison to Pint models, they have a 10.5″ x 4.5″- 6″ tire.
Onewheel GT Tire Size is Proprietary
Please see our post on GTR / GTXR conversions as riders that change their stock tire also change the hub of their Onewheel. In doing so, GT tire sizing is not applicable as this conversion utilizes an XR (or Pint) hub allowing use of those model sized tires.
Tires that are available for your Onewheel are based on hub size. Future Motion had changed the tire sizing from a 6″ hub that existed on the XR predecessor to 6.5″. Previous to the GT, one wheel dimensions were standard go-kart tires.
The 11″x6.5″-6.5″ is a custom tire sizing. Prior to this, it was very easy to find a Onewheel tire replacement as 6″ hubs are common especially in the go-kart market. Currently however, the 6.5″ hubs is a custom size from Future Motion which limits the aftermarket tire selection. This tire is more like the Onewheel pint than the XR in regards to profile.
Future Motion has kept the same tire height but traded 0.5 inch in tire sidewall for hub space. Many feel that this is a ploy by Future Motion to buy tires exclusively from them. Riders do often criticize the ride is not as smooth being that the sidewall has been lessened. To go with an aftermarket tire, options are limited currently to an Enduro tire by Floatlife. You can swap to a Pint or XR hub allowing for more tire availability however this is more involved.
Onewheel GT – Aftermarket Tire Line-up
Here is the complete list of available tires for the Onewheel GT. Please note that Future Motion does make performance tires that come in slick and treaded. Their treaded tire option slightly changes dimensions:
Future Motion – Performance GT Treaded
Size | 11″ x 7″ – 6.5 |
Shore Rating | Softer |
Weight | 1560g (3lb 7oz) |
Availability | Onewheel GT |
Fun Factor | 10/10 |
The Onewheel performance treaded tire is the first time Future Motion has created a varied tire for the Onewheel (other than just an option for treaded). With their performance line-up, the treaded GT tire has an extra 1/2 inch width which is going to provide some XR nostalgia while tackling trails.
Future Motion – Performance GT Slick
Size | 11″ x 6.5″ – 6.5 |
Shore Rating | Softer |
Weight | T.B.A. |
Availability | Onewheel GT |
Fun Factor | 10/10 |
The Onewheel performance tires are new to the scene and honestly they are working to perfect what all of us riders want in both a slick and treaded tire option. Their performance slick tire is a gripper version of what they already provide. Its essentially a softer version of the stock slick -preserving the same dimensions.
Float Life – GT Enduro Tire
Size | 11″ x 6.5″ – 6.5 |
Shore Rating | Softer |
Weight | 54.4 oz (1,542 grams) |
Availability | Onewheel GT |
Fun Factor | 10/10 |
From the success of Float Life’s XR Enduro tire, they bring the GT Enduro to the arena. This is a softer rubber tire with custom patches along the edges for a softer and quieter ride. As of now, this is the only aftermarket tire option for a stock Onewheel GT hub. This tire keeps the same dimensions of 11.5″x6.5″-6″ however being made of a softer rubber composite, the ride is smoother and less bouncy. It only comes as a treaded option however like the GT stock treaded tire, the grooves are not aggressive. Its the right amount allowing for easy street and trail riding.
Onewheels handle incredibly well off-road even with a slick tire installed. They do not require an aggressive tread. Yes, the treading provides for more traction but from my riding experience, I find that the more aggressive treading on a Hoosier or Burris is marginally better than the stock GT treaded (regarding traction). Ride quality differs but the point I want to make is that a subtle tread does the job right.
FlightFin’s – GOAT Tire
Size | Currently Not Released |
Shore Rating | Currently Not Released |
Weight | 1437g (3lb 2oz) |
Availability | Onewheel GT |
Fun Factor | Currently Not Released |
Is this tire going to be the ‘Greatest Of All Time‘? This tire will rival the Enduro tire by FloatLife. Specs on this tire have yet to be released however currently it is only for a 6.5″ hub fitting only GT Onewheels currently. Why I think this tire is genius is the tread pattern. When you ride this tire, you are essentially advertising FlightFins everywhere you go.
Picture cruising on some packed beach sand. All you leave behind is the iconic “FF” logo in your path. With a rounder shoulder, ample amounts of sipes along the edge and one incredible tread pattern, this tire will challenge the Enduro for sure.
The Float Life – Street Pro 2 (GT)
Size | 11″ x 6.5″ – 6.5 |
Shore Rating | Softer |
Weight | 47 oz (1,332 grams) |
Availability | Onewheel GT |
Fun Factor | 10/10 |
Now for the GT, the Street Pro is here. Based off the Burris Street Pro for the XR, the Street Pro 2 is reported to be 15% lighter than the stock GT tire and a shade under 30% lighter than the treaded tire. Float Life is reporting a super soft custom durometer rating so anticipate this to be a super smooth slick for the roads. A ‘marshmellowy’ feeling that you will love if you are into slicks.
Anticipate a faster wear on this tire however its the price you pay for super softy tires. This will ride and wear similar to a Hoosier Whisper.
Onewheel Stock GT Treaded Tire
Size | 11″ x 6.5″ – 6.5 |
Shore Rating | Hard |
Weight | 66.2 oz (1,877 grams) |
Availability | Onewheel GT |
Fun Factor | 7/10 |
The stock tire is stiff rubber. It will likely get about 1000 miles of use however on wet surfaces, I find the rubber is so hard, its almost like plastic and does not do the best (traction-wise). I’m exaggerating however with a softer rubber, you really can fell the difference.
Onewheel Stock GT Slick Tire
Size | 11″ x 6.5″ – 6.5 |
Shore Rating | Hard |
Weight | 54.4 oz (1,542 grams) |
Availability | Onewheel GT |
Anticipation / Fun Factor | 7/10 |
Stock GT slick tires are not as versatile as a treaded tire. Sadly, in my opinion the GT slick is inferior to the Vega slick that comes standard on the XR Onewheel. While the profile of the GT tire is more curved allowing for more play and nimbleness, the rubber material is tough. I do find that when the ground has some dew, there is some slipping. GT trail boards really should be treaded.
This post will be updated as more GT Onewheel tires become available. If you recently acquired a GT, the Enduro tire is the only option however initial reviews have been great and its an awesome tire to have as an alternate to the stock provided tire.
F.A.Q.’s
The stock GT slick tire does wonders. The rubber is a little tougher however if you are a street rider, you may get far more miles out of it than a softer aftermarket tire.
Avoiding hot asphalt is the #1 detriment to the lifetime of a Onewheel tire. If you do more trail riding than street riding, the wear on your tire will be far less. Under inflated tires also place a strain on the sidewalls which may shorten its lifespan. If you want a longer lasting tire, ride trails.
Harder compound tires make it easier for doing reverts however any tire can achieve it. The softer tires stick to the pavement like glue on hotter days.
Future Motion released a performance tire line-up for the Onewheel GT in August of 2023. They come both in treaded and slick.
